Interestingly, the most popular type of electric vehicle in the country in June was a light commercial model. Eighty-two units of the BYD eT3 van were registered in the country last month. These cars are part of the fleet of a company that rents green fleets, provides labor, waste and urban cleaning, TB Green.
The new electric vans branded in Brazil will operate in São Paulo and in Rio de Janeiro. It was precisely in São Paulo that Mayor Ricardo Nunes sanctioned Law No. 17.563. The new legislation returns owners of electric cars in the municipality the amount paid in IPVA, either through a deposit or as a discount on the IPTU.
The city also has another law that provides a 50% exemption on the IPVA value for electric, hybrid or hydrogen-powered vehicles. Another advantage for owners of this type of car in São Paulo is the exemption on rotation.
“On the one hand, local governments create incentives for green logistics, and on the other, companies have been strengthening their ESG (environmental, social and governance – environmental, social and governance) agenda, with electric mobility being one of the best ways to reduce emissions and build a cleaner and healthier urban environment for all”, analyzed Adalberto Maluf, BYD's Marketing and Sustainability Director.
ABVE's projection is that the Brazilian market will surpass the mark of 28 thousand new electrified vehicles registered by the end of 2021. If confirmed, the amount will represent a growth of 42% compared to 2020, when 19.745 electric cars entered the streets of Brazil .
